Tucker’s Maltings situated in Newton Abbot opened for business on Monday 5th November in 1900. The site for the Maltings in Newton Abbot was selected by John Parnell Tucker who was the eldest son to Edwin Tucker. Edwin Tucker’s was founded in 1831 at Ashburton on the edge of Dartmoor trading as Malsters and Seed Merchants. Today the family continue their agriculture and seed merchanting in Ashburton and Credition along with their Tuckers Country Stores which stock a large range of products for pet and horse owners, gardeners, smallholders and farmers.
Tucker’s Maltings today prides itself as being one of only a handful of floor Maltings that produces malt in the traditional way. It is even the only remaining working Malthouse in the West Country being the only one which is open for public visiting in England.
Tuckers Maltings supply over 30 breweries in the West Country and beyond with quality malt made from the best Quality Assured malting barley grown in the South and West of England. They have a speciality bottled beer shop which sells a huge range of beers with numerous of these being made from Tuckers Malt. The shop is open throughout the year although it is advisable to phone for winter hours. You are welcome to browse as there is no obligation to take a guided tour. They also offer a very busy mail order service.
Tuckers Maltings hosts the Maltings Festival which takes place in April and is now established as one of the premier beer festivals in the UK. This event is organised by SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers)
